Recount Text: A trip to Siak Sri Indrapura

Hello students! Welcome back to our English class.

Today, we are going to learn about Recount Text. Have you ever gone on a holiday and wanted to tell your friends about it? When you tell a story about your past experience, you are using a Recount Text!

What is Recount Text?

Recount Text is a text that tells the reader about a story, action, or activity that happened in the past. Its main goal is to entertain or inform the reader.

The Structure of Recount Text:

1. Orientation: Tells who was involved, what happened, where the events took place, and when it happened. (Pengenalan tokoh, tempat, dan waktu).
2. Events: Tells what happened in chronological sequence. (Urutan kejadian dari awal sampai akhir).
3. Reorientation: The writer's personal comment or feeling about the experience. (Kesimpulan atau perasaan penulis).
   

Language Feature: Because it happened in the past, we must use Simple Past Tense (Verb 2). Example: go ➔ went, visit ➔ visited, see ➔ saw.

Read the text below carefully. This is a story about a trip to our beautiful city!

A Trip to Siak Sri Indrapura

(Orientation) Last school holiday, my family and I went to Siak Sri Indrapura. We drove our car from our house in the morning. The weather was very bright and nice.

(Events) First, before entering the city center, we crossed the magnificent Tengku Agung Sultanah Latifah Bridge. We opened the car window to see the beautiful Siak River from above.

Then, we visited the Siak Palace, also known as Istana Asserayah Hasyimiah. We bought the tickets and went inside. We saw many historical artifacts, ancient weapons, and the famous Komet music box. The palace was very clean and well-maintained.

After exploring the palace, we took a walk along the Siak River Turap (riverbank). We enjoyed the fresh air and bought some local food and snacks. We made sure to throw our trash in the dustbin to keep the riverbank clean.

(Reorientation) In the afternoon, we drove back home. We were tired, but we were very happy to learn about our local history and enjoy the beautiful city of Siak.
